What is the Bahamas Olympic Committee?

The Bahamas Olympic Committee (BOC) is the body responsible for advancing the Olympic movement in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. It is the national Olympic committee (NOC) of The Bahamas, having membership in the International Olympic Committee.

The BOC carries out IOC programs in The Bahamas and sets policies for the smooth governing of the Olympic sports within the country, in accordance with the Olympic Charter. The BOC is also responsible for organizing the athletes and officials representing The Bahamas at the Olympic Games.

How is the BOC composed and governed?

Membership in the BOC is open to all national sports associations and federations that are recognized by their international federation (IF), are in good standing with their IF, and whose sport is on the Olympic program. IOC members in The Bahamas are also members of the BOC.

The general assembly (all member federations) elects executive officers to administrate the affairs of the BOC in accordance with a strategic plan. The officers elected to a four-year term are president, six vice presidents, a secretary general, an assistant secretary general, a treasurer and assistant treasurer.

What is Team Bahamas?

Team Bahamas is the consolidated group of athletes and officials selected to represent The Bahamas at the Olympics and any multi-sport Games patronized by the International Olympic Committee.

How is Team Bahamas selected?

Team Bahamas is selected by the Bahamas Olympic Committee to represent The Bahamas at the Olympics and any multi-sport Games patronized by the IOC. National Federations play a large role in recommending athletes, coaches and managers. The NFs also ensure that the BOC is made aware of every athlete who has achieved qualifying standards for the Games.

Can I get Team Bahamas Olympic pins?

Unfortunately, we are not able to mail pins to our friends around the world. Members of Team Bahamas have official pins with them at the Olympic Games. Team members share pins liberally at the Games, in the spirit of friendship and competition.

Can I get official Olympic gear from the BOC?

Bahamas gear will be available at BahamasOlympicCommittee.org. The gear will not be identical to the official Team Bahamas uniforms, but they will be sanctioned by the Bahamas Olympic Committee.

How can I support Bahamian athletes?

The Bahamas Olympic Committee is completely funded by IOC grants and fundraising. If team supporters wish to make a financial contribution to fund education, training and competition of Team Bahamas members, they may send checks in the name of Bahamas Olympic Committee to P O Box SS-6250, Nassau, Bahamas. Donations may also be given via Paypal transfer to manager@bahamasolympic.com

How can I represent The Bahamas in international sporting competitions?

Only Bahamian citizens may represent The Bahamas in the Olympic Games. Citizens may compete in Olympic qualifiers through the national federation governing their sport. Once qualifying standards are achieved, the athlete may be considered for Team Bahamas.

Can I intern with the BOC?

As the BOC is a relatively small administrative organizations, there are not regular opportunities for internships though there are many requests. To express interest in an internship, please email manager@bahamasolympic.com
