Olympic Day encourages active lifestyles

As the world marks Olympic Day today, Bahamas Olympic Committee (BOC) President Romell Knowles joined Olympians around the world in encouraging people to live healthy and active lifestyles.

“Let’s Move” is the theme of this year’s Olympic Day, which aims to prompt people around the world to make time for daily physical activity. President Knowles pointed out that there are many health and social benefits to having an active population.

“Using proper diets and having active lifestyles are so important to having a longer life and a better quality of life,” he said. “Physical fitness is not just for athletes. It is for every one of us, and we can avoid many non-communicable diseases by just staying active.”

Almost 80 percent of National Olympic Committees (NOCs) are participating in the 2023 Olympic Day. Of those NOCs, about 95 percent have organized in-person events to mark the occasion.
